You make me blush!!!

Blushes for your skin type

Hey Hello my gorgeous readers,

Hope you’re doing well and looking forward to the long weekend. We are still wearing our puffa jackets here in the UK and desperately waiting for spring so we can have some flush on our cheeks. Spring is all about fresh colours and  who doesn’t like a natural flush on their cheeks when weather is great and flowers are blooming? Even though you don’t own a highlighter, you must be having atleast couple of blushers.

When I was new to makeup, I used to pick any shade without thinking if its going to complement my skin tone or not. So, I spent a lot of money as well as time on hit and trial with blushers. With my experience, I am sharing my picks with you all. Its not that you need to restrict yourself to shades I mention but you can definitely take this as a guide to choose shades that complement your skin tone.

BTW, swatches will be spread all over the post instead of under a particular skin tone but I mentioned against the blush name if a swatch is provided in this post.

Lets get to the pointers 🙂

Pale skin tones

Finding a right blush for pale skin tones can be extremely difficult. You do not want a shade that looks too contrasting or overpowering on your skin tone.

Baby pink and light peachy hues work best to give a natural flush. Try using powder blushes as cream blushes can look more bright and intense.

  • Clinique cheek pop – Fig Pop
  • Nars – Orgasm (similar to Sleek Rose gold)
  • Maybelline Dream bouncy blush – Rose Petal
  • NYX Blush – Natural
  • Tom Ford – Frantic Pink
  • Sleek – Life’s a Peach
  • Nars – Sex Appeal
  • Sleek – Mirrored Pink (check swatch)
  • Stila Convertible colour – Lillium (check swatch)
  • Illamasqua powder blush duo – Lover & Hussy | Review | (check swatch)

Fair skin tones

Fair skin tones are not as difficult to work with as it is with Paler skin tones. Pinks and Peaches work best for your skin. Here are some of the options:

  • Sleek – Rose gold (check swatch)
  • Nars Orgasm (similar to Sleek Rose gold)
  • NYX – Natural
  • Sleek – Pixie Pink (Apply with light hand)
  • Clinique cheek pop – Ginger Pop (check swatch)
  • Clinique cheek pop – Heather Pop
  • Illamasqua powder blush duo – Lover & Hussy | Review | (check swatch)
  • MAC – Peaches
  • Sleek Coral (check swatch)
  • Stila Convertible colour – Lillium (check swatch)

Medium skin tones

Medium skin tones are easiest to work with. Most shades suit well on medium skin tones but particularly dusty rose, dusty mauves, peaches and muted oranges look best. I have medium skin tones so I have some swatches to share as well.

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay – Blushing Bride
  • Nars – Taj Mahal (similar to Sleek Sahara)
  • Sleek – Sahara (Dupe of Nars Taj Mahal)
  • Sleek – Coral (check swatch)
  • Sleek – Rose Gold (check swatch)
  • Mac – Peaches
  • New Cid – Coral Crush (check swatch)
  • Stila Convertible colour – Lillium (check swatch)
  • Mac – Gingerly
  • Illamasqua powder blush duo – Lover & Hussy | Review | (check swatch)
  • Illamasqua creme blush – Dixie (check swatch)
  • Clinique Cheek Pop – Ginger Pop (check swatch)
  • Milani Baked blush – Luminoso (I recently ordered this and waiting for it to arrive)
  • NYX – Desert Rose
  • NYX- Mocha

Deep Skin tones

My deep tone girls usually get disheartened when the blushes that work on fair skin tone girls look ashy on them. Not to worry babes, i have got you covered! Many blushes may not show up on your skin tones. Women of colour can enhance their natural skin with Rose, Red and Deep Orange shades. A pop of bright pinks may work as well but stay away from light pinks as it may make you look ashy and dull.

My recommendations are:

  • Sleek – Sahara (check swatch)
  • Sleek – Scandalous
  • Nars – Exhibit A
  • Sleek – Pomegranate (check swatch)
  • Nars – Taj Mahal (similar to Sleek Sahara)
  • NYX – Cinnamon
  • Lancome blush subtil – Rose Paradis (check swatch)
  • Sleek – Flushed (check swatch)

I seriously need to try Mac and Tarte blushes as I always hear good things about them.

If you want me to do a detailed review on any of the blushes I swatched above, do let me know. I’d be more than happy to do a blog post 🙂

Which blushes did you like most for your skin tone? Do you have any recommendations for me to check out? Let me know in the comments below. I appreciate each single comment and feedback.

  1. They’re all so pretty! I really should use deeper colours that suit me but I’m always drawn towards the dusky shades. Great post! xx

    1. Thank you Latifa for leaving a comment. I am sure dusky shades suit you too. You are a talented MUA and you know your stuff. But yes, I would suggest using deeper shades too and see if it makes a difference.

I think i left it in India. I will get that back soon 😉

  3. Really loved reading this! It’s so nice to see recommendations for medium and dark skin tones. I always see makeup on fair people and then it looks awful on me.

    1. Thanks for leaving a comment Nital. Being a medium skin tone myself, I used to face same problem but not any more. Glad you liked this post.
