There has been a trend of lip crayons for more than a year now. And its gonna stay for a while even though liquid lipsticks have taken quite a lot of shelf spaces at cosmetic counters. Be it high end or drugstore, almost every makeup brand has launched their lip crayons. NARS Cosmetics satin as well as velvet matte lip crayons stand out among the high ends for sure. These retail for 19 Pounds in UK so not everyone can afford those beauties! Wouldn’t it be nice if we own a lip crayon which is as good as high-end but at a quarter of price? Well, some of you might have guessed by now..I am talking about Maybelline Color Drama lip pencils.
I feel these Maybelline ones are very close dupe of NARS. Well, its not just me 🙂 I posted a sneak peak kind of picture about this blog post yesterday on my social media and my lovely friends commented that the swatches look like its a post about NARS lip crayons 🙂 .
I picked up two shades ‘Keep it classy’ and ‘Light it Up’ from this line. I must say, both are gorgeous. Maybelline lip pencils are more comfortable to wear than NARS. I find NARS lip pencils slightly drying on my lips so i always prefer to exfoliate my lips before that. Color payoff of Maybelline lip crayons are just as good as NARS . I have seen swatches of NARS ‘Cruella’ and Maybelline ‘Essential Red’ lip pencils and they do look very very close. ‘Light it up’ is orange based red . I preferred this over Essential red at that time. ‘Keep it Classy’ is pinky plum shade and is more of a Kylie Jenner lip shade family 🙂 🙂 I am always drawn towards such shades!
I will be picking up ‘Essential Red’ and ‘Berry much’ shade next time I am in Boots store. BTW, these are marked for 4.99 pounds and are usually on offer of 3 for 2 or buy one get 2nd half price. The maybelline lip pencils are quite smaller than NARS and the actual amount of product is not written on crayon but at that price it is definitely a steal!
